Georgia Buchla Cancer Research Fund
When our beloved Boxer girl, Georgia, was diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma (HSA) in September 2014, we started the Georgia Buchla Cancer Research Fund, in partnership with the American Boxer Charitable Foundation (ABCF). The fund raised over $24,000 towards canine cancer research and those funds were matched by the ABCF to $100,000, specifically for the purpose of funding canine cancer research.
Unfortunately, Georgia succumbed to this dreaded cancer on December 27, 2014, only 3½ months after diagnosis. The outpouring of love and support we received for our loss was tremendous from both the Boxer and canine performance sport communities. While there are many factors that have played into the success of the fund, one stands above all -- the fact that countless dog lovers, many of whom have also experienced the pain of losing their canine companion to cancer, feel compelled to do their part to help battle canine cancer.
Although the partnership with ABCF ended on July 1, 2015, the Georgia Buchla Cancer Research Fund continues as an avenue to raise money specifically for canine cancer research. Our mission is also to raise awareness about the various cancers affecting our canine friends, inform readers about opportunities to participate in research by donating donate blood/tissue from affected dogs, and to provide information regarding canine cancer research projects and clinical trials. In addition, we wish to honor others by featuring stories of other dogs lost to cancer - ones who may be gone but will not be forgotten. Through these efforts, we hope to advance the fight against canine cancer in meaningful ways and in so doing, honor Georgia's memory.
We hope you will find this website to be both informative and inspiring, and we thank you for your support!
Sincerely,
Todd and Sherry Buchla
